ABOUT THE BREED

Although the American Staffordshire Terrier resembles the American Pit Bull Terrier, it is a separate, distinct breed. ----------Today's Am Staff is mostly seen as a companion (pet/guard) and show dog.

General Impression - The American Staffordshire Terrier should give the impression of great strength for his size, a well put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful, keenly alive to his surroundings. He should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline. His courage is proverbial. -----------

SIZE - Height and weight should be in proportion.
HEIGHT: Male- 18 to 19 inches at shoulders
Female: 17 to 18 inches for the female
WEIGHT - Ranges from 50 to 75 lbs. ----------

The American Staffordshire Terrier originated sometime in the 1800s, developed by farmers and settlers for all around farm work, hunting wild game, guarding, and companionship.

The remaining dedicated owners and breeders who provide American Staffordshire Terriers with humane, responsible ownership, often training these dogs for community service tasks such as pet therapy and search and rescue.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is courageous, muscular, agile and graceful. His working abilities, intelligence and high activity level make him well suited for many dog sports and activities. He is very loyal to his family and well known for his reliability with children, making him a good guardian. ---------The Am Staff is very people oriented and requires interaction and plenty of attention from his family. ----------The American Staffordshire Terrier comes in all colours — brindles, parti, patched, or any combination. His short coat is easy to maintain and requires little grooming.

Wizdom is a red fawn male American Staffordshire Terrier pictured here at 7 months with an excellent temperment, conformation, bone structure, bite, and a champion bloodline. Wizdom's dam is a Champion, CH Absolute's Beach Blond Babe and his sire, Iron Horse Rebel Knucklehead would have been as well if it were not for a bad ear crop. Lament of a STUD dog

My job is making puppies and I get two tries at that. They pat me and tell me "Good Boy" and that's the end of that.--------------- It's half my job to give 'em teeth and topline, fronts and other. Remember, it's only half my job they also have a mother.---------------It's not my job to carry pups and make 'em grow or nurse 'em And feed and clean and make 'em strong.That's for "mother" and a person. ---------------It's not my job to wean 'em and feed calcium and food. And stack and gait and housebreak and make 'em show or brood. ---------------It's not my job to plan the breeding and learn what produces well, To study pedigrees, learn what's there, and pick out what to sell. ---------------It's not my job to guarantee champs, the breeder picks the pair, To make and whelp and feed and show and hope that champ is there. ---------------It's not my job to be on hand when points are given out.
